“Jo you are anointed, but the problem is that you don’t play the guitar, you don’t quite have the look and oh yea, you are too exuberant and too passionate to worship in the Christian church. Jo, your vertical message is way too deep for traditional church. You have to make the music bigger, sing harder so people can feel it. You have the potential to do both, but you have to make a decision ’cause God knows you got oil on your life….”

The oil, the glory, the gifts were never intended for us to live divided but rather, unified – John 17:22

So to be successful in the industry seems like I have to choose a side. Well, thankfully I’m not a slave to the bondage of the industry or its worldly systems. I believe that these are the golden calves of our age and I, just like the three Hebrew boys, won’t bow down. I’m privileged to live a God-honoring-life of worship. One that ascribes value, honor, reverence to the Lord. The essence of my life, my worship cannot be held hostage to performance, preference, tradition, race, gender or genre. So I vow to God to stand for THE MINISTRY of UNITY not INDUSTRY. I vow to be authentically me no matter who accepts or rejects. Our lives are full of choices. Careful what you choose. You may be soliciting followers rather than making disciples.

“I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected and completed into one, so that the world may know [without any doubt] that You sent Me, and [that You] have loved them, just as You have loved Me.” – John 17:22-23 AMP
